Congratulations to S Lutz for catching the new NSAC record Northern Pike on August 3, 2008. He caught the fish while on Lake Minnetonka with a medium sized sucker minnow. Exact Length and Weight - 21" and 1lbs 6.4oz.

SL also came within 5 ounces of beating BN's current large mouth bass record (3lb, 3oz) with this fish weighing in at 2lbs, 14.4oz. Not a bad day of fishing!

Fishing Update - Keeper Landed at Buoy 13

Went out last night to catch last of flood, beginning of ebb. hi at 10:21pm, lines wet at 7pm near 13.

Good crew and very eager to catch some fish after some recent reports. Saw a nasty radar of weather in the midwest heading our way, chance of thundershowers 50%. Luckily only thunder of the night came from fireworks.

Nice warm night, limited breeze. JP landed the first fish, 3-4lb bluefish on fresh bunker chunk from Northeast B&T. (he was thrilled, his first fish in 15 years). Ed connected with 2nd bluefish slightly larger about 15minutes later....then a huge dogfish (foul hooked)with spider crab connected, what a mess.

Water slacked, then boat swung with outgoing...nada, small runoffs. Listened to the Mets lose. Couple of runoffs again, nada. "OK, let's fish for 40 minutes more then call it a night" (depressing words, but gears people up to catch) Then PN gets run off! grabs the rod and connects! This is what we came out for. Fish fought hard with 3-4 drag peeling runs. Surfaced 10 yards off stern, at first we thought it was another dogfish,...nope...keeper bass! swift gaff, flopped in on deck at 34" , 17lbs! We cheered and wrapped it up to celebrate at Shamrock for a couple at 1:30am. filleted it at 3am, bed at 3:30am. Zombie ...but a thrilled zombie. until next time.

Fishing Update & Bass Recipe

Hey. Caught this 30", 13.5 lb striped basstard just west of Bouy 15 off Lloyd Point on Friday night 06/27/08. Two hours into the outgoing, 25 ft of water, sound was like glass, just a beautiful night. I was fishing alone, three lines in the water. Had a run off while reeling this in- guess I 'll never know about the other one. Lots of blues out there stealing my bunker chunks. Went out at 8:00, was back by 10:30 with a keeper. It was a good night. Just ate it today. If you guys want to try something good, cut fish into 1" cubes, boil in any dark beer for a couple of minutes until firm, and dip in drawn butter. It's fantastic!

2008 NSAC Fluke Fest

Congratulations to GW on winning the 2008 Intra-NSAC Fluke Fishing Tournament. The 2008 New York fluke fishing regulations made for a challenging day of fishing and catching 20.5”+ fish proved to be no small task. There were plenty of sea robins, some shorts, and a few giants that got away. At the end of the day, GW’s two doormats were the only keepers landed. Despite the tough fishing, it was a great day out on the water.

Hempstead Harbor Bass

This bass was caught at sunset just outside of Hempstead Harbor on June 9th. The water was calm like a lake. Fish was 16 lbs 33 inches. I caught it on an umbrella rig.

2008 NSAC Fluke Fest

On June 21, 2008 the North Shore Anglers Club will be holding the 1st annual Intra-NSAC Fluke Tournament in Huntington, NY.
Details:
Lines in at 6:00am, BBQ and Weigh-In start at 3:00pm. All fish must be weighed by 5:00pm.

RFA-NY FISHERIES TOWN MEETING
With so many critical fishery issues affecting anglers, now more than ever, the entire fishing community must rally together in this fight to protect the future of fishing. We welcome the fishing public to join the NY State Chapter of the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA-NY) for a Fisheries Town Meeting to discuss how we must unite members of the fishing community to address the numerous fisheries issues affecting us all. The meeting will be held at the 130 E. Merrick Rd in Freeport, NY from 7:00 PM-9:30 PM. RFA-NY Board member, Phil Curcio, Lobbyist and General Counsel for United Boatmen of NY and NYFTTA, will discuss the impact that the reauthorized Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA) has on the Long Island fishery and how the flexibility amendment, HR 5425, can bring some relief. Also, Jim Donofrio, RFA Executive Director, and Ray Bogan, RFA General Counsel, will describe the dire future of our sport under the current MSA and explain why it is absolutely necessary to pass an amendment immediately. New NSAC Record - Pumkinseed Sunfish - Ties Ohio State Record!

Congratulations to Q Nigro for catching the new NSAC record Pumkinseed Sunfish on April 5, 2008. He caught the fish using a worm on a slip float in NY. Exact weight and length - 12 ounces and 9". This ties the weight of the Ohio State record pumkinseed sunfish set back in 2001. Nice work!

Here are the New York State proposed 2008 Summer Flounder Regulations:
Species: Summer Flounder (fluke)
Size Limits: Fish must be 20.5" or larger
Daily Possession limits: 4
Open Season: May 15-Sept 1
*These are not finalized. They still have to be approved by the Federal Government.

Congratulations to A and B Nigro for catching new NSAC record Atlantic Sailfish on April 5, 2008. Each angler caught a fish weighing an estimated 40lbs. Because the fish were released boat side they were unable to be weighed or measured. They fish were caught while fishing in Miami, FL.
