Schenevus ,N.Y - Bass and Bluegills
My family and I took a much needed long weekend in the little town of schenevus ,N.Y for Columbus day weekend. I thought it would be a great chance to sneak in a little bass fishing. I bought the town drunk a sixer of geneseo in exchange for his secret spot. So there we were, up a dirt and down into a little valley. Fishing was fun a lot of bass and bluegill caught on everything from spinnerbaits to jellyworms. My son was bailing bluegills on dragonfly nymphs. His largest was 6.75 inches and tipped our scale at 8 ounces. I decided try to catch a big fish I had seen earlier trailing one of my lures. It was time to liveline a bluegill. I hooked a 4 inch bluegill on a 3/0 red owner semicircle hook. I tossed it out in the area where I suspected this leviathan lurked. I slowly retrieved the fish in. I learned long ago not to quit on largemouth, a bait must be fished to the shore they will feed in water only as deep as they are. Well I forgot my own rule , as I was about to hall the fish out I saw a swirl and a puff of mud as three pounds of largemouth committed to the kill. Luckily my fishing response is honed to such a degree that I was able to recover, I freespooled long enough for the fish to pause and turn the bait that’s my cue to cross his eyes! Officially the fish stretched the tape at 19 inches and weighed in at 3 lbs 3oz.

Brian,
Nice Bass and Great write up! Didn't know your saltwater skillz would carry over to freshwater so well. Thanks for the reminder that there are other places to fish besides the sea! Also, thanks for putting the bass in front of your face, it saved us from having to look at your ugly mug.
